The best advice I can give is to avoid all Hexplore It products altogether. They might be playable one day, but not before 2033, and not after the Herculean effort of backporting and for once properly writing of the rulebooks. Sell your boxes asap, consider these what they are, sunk cost, but in case you can't find a buyer (aka a greater fool) and you're stuck with dead cardboard, you can make the best of it with this mod.
I'll make a detailed, objective analysis of the research findings in due time, but for now let's rejoice that the scaffold finally is made into a roguelite true-solo-supported actual game. It contains a playful tutorial in the form of gradually increasing missions and scoring sheets, unlocks and all that.
The conclusion is pretty unavoidable - over 4000+ backers were tricked. While it's good to encourage a creator for his creative work by throwing money at him, people were promised an adventure board game for 1-6 players, which was the literal text on the box. And none of that turned out to be true.
And we're talking over 4M USD revenue here (from 2017: 110k, 2018: 281k. 2019: 294k, 2021: 867k, 2023: 805k, 2024: 550k). What everyone got instead was an untested scaffold infused with signals that you were missing out on other content. Not cool. In case you don't believe me, you can verify the numbers, and make a tally of the online accounts that are vocal on bgg, reddit and the hexploreit social media - you'll find not 4000, not 100, but just a dozen people. Now ask again, why are the other 4000 backers silent? You guessed it - they tried to get the game to play and failed, then boxed it up, thinking they were too dumb or one day would get back to them - both fallacies. That is why your box is not on the table, but instead is collecting dust. And for those dozen people: their part time job is asking for clarifications on the discord channel. And the creator is not part of that community, all agreements are done via James, who has regular meetings with the creator in case we hit upon really ambiguous cases. The box is beautiful and so are the map components, but is this enough reason to hold on to them?
Anyway. Complete up to date rule reference here in one place. No, it's not for free. And yes, this is the only place where you can obtain this.Nobody else has been capable (or foolish) enough to pull it off.
Several months of research went into the rewrite of the original rule-book and placards - reason being that updates are only published in rulebooks of future volumes, as per company policy. Thank you for sponsoring such a company...
