Make Sentinels Great Again


Background and motivation:

  1. According to lore, the Mindwiped build Sentinels in their cities. When they spawn, they should start from a city that had time to build such a construct.
  2. Sentinels as physical entities don’t teleport, they should move across the board and target the next Battle Site that makes sense to guard. Adrimon isn’t stupid, she doesn’t send Sentinels to Battle sites that already were used (depleted) to craft a Relic.
  3. When there are no free Battle Sites (either occupied by party, by other Sentinels, or depleted), Sentinels will target the party.
  4. When all Battle Sites are depleted (all 4 or 5 in case of Paragon’s Hall), all Sentinels should head straight for the Acropolis – Adrimon senses the party is now ready and coming for her.

This leads to the above rule-set.

 

  • There is no need to “tell players that Sentinels are dangerous”, like the rb states.
  • Solidifies the underdeveloped Incursion concept, adding more "incentive" to the Mindwiped: they want the Waypost for building another Sentinel.
  • Battling Sentinel is kept as in the original.
  • As for player agency, the roaming Sentinels described above aren’t much more powerful than the rb version, but this version has them react to you (instead of an editor saying they were thrown in “just to spice things up”).
  • When a Sentinel appears you have more time to beat it to reach the BS, one you will need, slowly but surely.
  • You know where the next one spawns at, so you know which EC can be looted safely.

Now you have ultimate weapons, and a reactive game world. The world feels alive and pulsing. This is what everyone wants ♥
